to update every day. i hate having to do these big updates because there's a lot to write about, and if you know me, you know I get ADD and will forget things as quickly as I think of them. That said, here it goes..
WORK
Fuck work, but it's been enjoyable for the most part. I'm not learning things at the rate that I would like to, but if I were bombarded with info, I don't think I would absorb everything. Better to learn something small every day than get crammed all at once or try to learn too much over a certain span of time.
I've taken a liking to commodities, especially CRUDE OIL, and futures. I'm learning a great deal about the investment management/hedge fund business. I am grateful this holiday season that I have a job and that someone saw potential in me and gave me a shot. This time last year my prospects were grim and I didn't think the future looked all that bright. It does now.
I've taken an interest in Sales/Trading also. I intend to take the Series 7 and get registered to sell securities. If things don't pan out at the fund, I'd like to join an investment bank and take it from there. Goal for 2010 is to get sponsored by the fund. It will happen.
FORECASTS
As part of my job as an analyst, I'm required to stay up to date on the latest economic research. We get overwhelmed with market news everyday, so there's always something to read. Here's a small amount of what i'm seeing for 2010:
Crude to 90+, likely 100+, though it struggles throughout year-end and into 2010. Views are a combination of Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs research. Thematically I feel bullish, tactically I really don't know. Crude is too tough to call. When I think it's going to bottom to 55 it rallies back to 74. Such a punter's market. Still most, including me, got the short call correct (I said short at 74 a while back). Though we've seen a recent rally and momentum, I'm not inclined to buy until maybe 80. At this level, I think it's a safe bet it's going up. Until then, stay away from "cruel" oil.
USD will strengthen. A weak USD is not good for any economy, let alone the US's. Weak USD sends cash flows out of the US into foreign markets, creating asset bubbles that will eventually pop. No one wants this. Centrals banks have been vocal about their support for a stronger dollar and the Fed has made clear the greenback's weakness warrants their attention. Look for the Fed to hike in mid-2010 and strengthen the USD. Long USDJPY to 105+, short GBPUSD. short EURUSD. GBP has been affected by the excessive printing of money. Punish the printers - Morgan Stanley. Look for the NOK to strengthen as well. Don't short it.
Interest Rates to rise. Look for spreads to widen on the back end. 10y to 4.5-5.0% by end 2010. Play this with a 10yr swap spread.
FED to hike mid-2010. Concerned about the dollar? Own foreign currency. But don't count the dollar out. Long USD. Invest in emerging markets. Next bubble will be bonds. Stay away from US Treasuries and muni bonds.
MUSIC
I continue to produce. My beats are getting better from what they were. I'm still sampling a lot but am now moving into composing solely from the dome. I think this will be good for me as samples are sometimes hard, or impossible, to clear and it will encourage me to think of my own ideas.
LIFE
I go to bed on the weekdays at around 8-8:30pm because I get up at around 4:15am for work. It's the nature of my job. We're based in LA but have to be up with all the cats in NY. Sucks, but I'm willing to do it so long as I'm making money. No money = fuck you i'm leaving.
Currently I'm reading Sorkin's Too Big to Fail. It's pretty good. Would like to finish it soon. Only time I have to myself is on the weekends. I'm going to do my best to maximize time i.e. wake up and start my weekends earlier. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. And right now, I'm all work. I need to balance life. I'm only 22. Fuck not doing what you want to do. I have my whole life to work.
DJ-ING
My brother is on Deckstar, AM's management team. He's better than 80% of the roster, which is comprised of the nation's top dj's. I don't care who reads that last statement, because it's true. Don't think so? let's talk... Pick up his mixes. follow him on twitter @dj_squigz.
GEORGETOWN
I miss my friends from the East Coast. hope everyone has found work. Hoyas basketball are 8-0. Should be a good season. Fuck the rest of the BIG EAST.
GOVERNMENT
Say no to Health Care reform. Obama, Reid, and Pelosi are crooks and goons. They are all pathetic at what they do. Bernanke stop printing money. Obama and the rest: give up on health care. stop spending my fucking money, and crawl back into the wholes from which you came. Stop trying to change my fucking country, you swines. Then again, I should maybe thank these fellows. Their irrationality is making FOX News, my favorite cable news network, #1 ten times over. I love Fox News. If you don't, let's talk...I'll help you understand how big government (spending) and a deviation from this country's founding principles puts us on a fast track to nowhere.
God bless. Have a great Christmas, or whatever holiday you happen to celebrate. Enjoy the holidays.
p.s. i should stop cursing.

update for the holidays
when you were a kid, remember how you used to look forward to the holidays? what made the holidays the holidays? For me, I knew Christmas was coming when the polar bear Coca Cola commercials started coming on. Coca-Cola has since stopped airing those types of commercials. Those advertisements were ill, to say the LEAST. Now, my house doesn't have any decorations and all I do is work. My parents don't do the decorating anymore. Maybe it's time that I start getting in the spirit for myself and start decorating. I'm all grown up now.
The point that i'm making is that i've lost touch with holiday season. Last year at this time I was taking final exams waiting to get home for Christmas. Now it's just another week that i'll have to grind out at the office. And you know what? if fucking sucks. I know what people meant now by saying "stay in school. work sucks." Well, work doesn't entirely suck, but that anticipation that i used to have back in school has since dissipated with help from the working world. I have less time to do what I want, and that includes taking in the holidays and having a relaxing Christmas break.
What I'm saying is: I (you) need to get in the holiday spirit and decorate, go see decorations, do those things that only happen around the season. ENJOY YOUR LIFE. Take in the pretty scenery. I'm only 22. If i don't fix this now, shit will get dull FAST

meow muthf*cka
#FF @therealmuggsy , @shitdj
that said, would like to update the blog.
recently, brother did some gigs at myhouse (it's a club in hwood FYI, and no not that h.wood, the city hwood. u know what i mean?) the club is okay. lots of quasi-belligerent drunks in the place the last time i went. stayed back last night because wasn't feeling up to dealing with drunks and whores and dudes who just won't leave you alone sometimes. I like to do my own thing at clubs. I enjoy to just sit back and listen to my brother, or anyone, play good music. that means i don't like to be bothered by people who think i'm bored or lonely. this doesn't mean i'm a dick, but really, i don't need to be jumping up and down or be blind drunk to be having a good time. letting loose is just chilling and doing my own thing. since 17, i've been doing this club/hollywood scene, running around clubs with my brother's ID and/or slipping in through the backdoor. sure it was exciting the first few times when clubs and people would endlessly hook it up with drinks. yes i got super saucy a handful of times, but those days are behind me. it's just another night at the office now for him, and for me too when i can tag along.
the more recognition my brother gets, the more people want to tag along and hang out. just mentioning that.
this past week i tweeted:
"#youcantdj / #youshouldntdj if you're over 30"
that was a joke, but some people didn't get that, or they thought they knew what they were talking about. maybe so, maybe no. they jsut didn't get the whole story.
no work tomorrow. big banks are closed on the east coast, so no one to do business with = day off. east coast kids get this day of more so than the West me thinks.
MEOW MEOW muthf*cka!!
goodnight
p.s. cop tiesto's new album and look out for the fame:monster. bad romance is a heater
dope entourage season finale.

work and women
even at 40+, why are women drama? this 40 yr old woman and her friend came up to me last night in the dj booth. i started chatting with her but about half way through the night she got pissed for some reason and gave me the silent treatment. she was a pretty woman, didn't look older than about 35. her friend had 2 kids. i have no problem with older women, just their attitude and mood swings.
met this girl and her friends from the University of Arizona at the end of the night. they were all from NJ and NY. gosh i can't tell you how attractive that combination is to me. "we're from new yawk" not so sure about that accent though! haha
work has been alright. my bosses have a good sense of humor, which is nice. we can dress casually. very happy about this because most jobs in the financial service sector require business casual at least. this seems so foolish to me since it doesn't matter what you dress like; it matters what kind of results you produce. the better marks we post, the sh!ttier we're going to dress. bottom line.
now watching NFL Redzone online. this thing is crazy. they switch between games every 15 secs. what. up.

Armin Van buuren - Communication
Notice the difference between modern trance and earlier trance. Notice the low kick drum, the bassline reminiscent of goa trance (ran through a high-pass filter?), and the lead full of energy-building strings. I'm thinking he used an arpeggiator, something utilized less frequently now in his productions.

Armin van Buuren VS. Rank 1 - This World Is Watching Me (Official Music Video)
And so began Armin's trend into harder sounding music...new synthesizers and less intricate melodies, though Armin was never really one for melodic trance or uplifting tunes. More reverb and cleaner, crisper sounding tracks characterize his latest music. Less "epic" strings and more piano (see below) and harder sounding synths and electro-driven bass.

Plummet - Damaged
Here's a clip of the 12'' club mix for "Damaged." This edit was taken from the compilation Trance Nation America Two, mixed by ATB and George Acosta. Other volumes of the Trance Nation compilation were mixed by trance notables such as Ferry "System F" Corsten. Ministry of Sound FTW!!!
p.s. for the sake of cataloging, the proper title for this mix is "Ford's Transcendental 12'' Mix", though it was often referred to as the "Original 12'' Mix" or "Original Club Mix."

Plummet - Damaged (CDM) 2001
the bassline on the Neo & Farina remix is wicked. hard
I love getting rips of these old gems. holy crap this was a banger in 2001. I was going to buy the CD for this if I had to and rip it myself. The trance that's produced nowadays is nothing like the '99 trance or early '00. Lotta stuff sounds different now. Maybe it just sounds cleaner because of the new technology.
Progressive crap, which I've always disliked, is becoming evermore popular with the rise of electro house. I've ALWAYS hated the progressive genre. No epic buildups or vocals = no fun. Electro, or blog house is a plus for me. I just need a hard bassline. Nu-disco is a favorite also. Funky bass roolz.
Work at the hedge fund starts Aug 1st. What to expect? I'm here this last week all by myself at home. Brother is djing in NYC. Pesitos went with him. Wtf's a homie to do?
P.S. Officially following the new rule. You need two people to "play tennis."

what's a hedge fund?
well i just interviewed for one today. they're mysterious aren't they?...1 billion dollar funds. 200 million kept by the fund. 50m or so in performance fees payed out to the employees; but it's not about the money for me. i just want to learn. you do what you love, and if you do it well, money will come. i'm sure of that. that's just how things work. you do well and you're compensated for it. people want to hire the best, that is, unless you're a DJ in LA. even if you fking suck you'll be brought on.
thank you @shitdj for giving me a heads up on where not to go on certain nights. it really is annoying to hear bad music played poorly. it sucks that good djs don't spin locally anymore since they're all traveling. these fucking amateurs are something else, and i call it like i see it. but my opinion is my opinion and it's not more valuable than anyone else's. However, I always feel i can objectively state whether or not someone and his/her skills blow cock, both literally and figuratively.
am i a dj? no. would i ever dj? no, because i fucking suck and would never provide such a disservice to the los angeles community.
please, don't practice, just stop.

djs in LA
i figured i had to update the blog, regardless of what time it is right now. twitter officially took off and killed this blog, kinda.
i wanted to take the time to discuss the djs in LA. Most of them suck. except for maybe 4 at most. here was proof tonight that after some point, it doesn't matter how the dj sounds. a crowd can be so fking drunk they don't know what they're listening to.
Here is a porn actress, Jenny Hendrix, who spent the 4th in Vegas. she went to a club called XS tonight. this was her tweet.
RT @jennyhendrix: Xs is off the hook ! Shots shots I'm in las vegas bitch! *;-) with @dwpoker!
to which i replied
@jennyhendrix how is the dj there?
i asked this because i knew Marshall Barnes was spinning. the kid sounds like he would be an okay guy personally, but as a dj, he's mediocre at best.
here was the tweet before her response to me
RT @jennyhendrix: Blame it on the alcohol!
after which she said
@erik_m amazing
and there is proof that she was drunk because you have to be FUCKED UP to think that @MarshallBarnes is amazing, or anything close to it.
politics in LA are shit. so are the djs. lord knows serato was a gift and a curse when you read things like this.
EDIT
apparently Marshall Barnes wasn't spinning this night? if he wasn't, i stand corrected.

never underestimate
giving a little @ reply or DM on twitter. staying connected with your fans is huge. a few people have been nice enough to respond back. this means a lot, even if it's just a small phrase or a hello. it's the porn stars and the common folks that respond the most. taking the time out of your life for the people who make you famous isn't asking that much..is it?
stay connected

i'm done with college
Si no me hubiesen aceptado, no habría estado aquí y no habría conocido a mis compañeros. No me habría relacionado con mentes tan inteligentes.
…y no habría visto a las bellezas.
¡Gracias a Dios! y gracias a ti

i'm scatter brained when i'm tired
what you probably don't know about me is that i'm scattered brained when i'm tired. I have enough of a problem already verbalizing my thoughts. asking questions for me sometimes is just difficult. what i think and what comes out of my my mouth are two separate things. combine this with fatigue and you get twisted, construed phrases flying in all directions. I try to not speak much when i'm tired because what i try to get across is totally not what i want to say. Things that make sense to me don't make sense to others. i think about things differently and sometimes draw connections that just don't work for other people. plus, if i'm trying to say "do u have your output on you" they hear "the thing on the computer, with u can i have it" so when i try to explain something or ask a question, they ALWAYS just look at me like "...the fuck?"
so yea, that happened today. twice i think. i run a different schedule than most. a bit of night owl. stay up till 3 on the regular. but this probably won't continue since Styker is not longer employed by westwood one.
screw u westwood one!

do you like blackjack? cause i just spent 15 man hours coding that sh!t. and guess what, i've got more coding to do for VBA and stuff. i have some work to do for next week. a good amount of assignments to finish/start. i don't care i'll finish them all (because I have to.) provided i don't procrastinate.

one day baby you'll realize that i'm the one day baby
the juan maclean - one day baby (surkin remix) is a face melter. classic surkin remix out of nowhere. please give it a listen. has those 80s house pianos. win
jadakiss spits hot fire on his album. why do i like his stuff? when he tells it it sounds so real. his voice sounds raspy, tired from hours of work. sounds like a driven man. the manifestation of hustle, exhaustion and strain. hear it in his voice
it's 5 am and i think i just heard my roommate get up to leave for the airport. he told me earlier (11-pm) that his flight left at 7am. i'm guessing he's getting ready upstairs. if he sees me up he'll think i'm a weirdo for sure.
once he leaves that's it. i'm the only one here this weekend. RAVE TIME. whole house shakes and just one subwoofer. imagine the 2 together. eruptioonnn.
bynum was back tonight. looked good. not bad for being out 32 games. i've officially blown about $40 on wingos. man i love that stuff. national chain coming soon...off to bed now son. peace. hope to wake up by noon. we'll see
one day baby, you'll realize that i'm the one day baby...
ya and went to mass today. will go again tomorrow. went to the gym before. no one there. court all to myself. make it rainnnnn. good friday today. i'm catholic

semi productive night tonight
got some ish done so i could watch the game. also had a quick group meeting tonight with my derivatives group. so we decided we're going to be long copper. we strip the old copper off the foreclosed homes and resell it on the market. Down is bad, up is good = +F! Brilliant! Hope to get up early tom and studying for that quiz/test on Wed. Guess that means i'll be downloading the loveline podcast tom morning too.
aubrey o'day was kinda boring last night. she's just boring in gen. Maybe she's diff in person?
championship game tonight was saddening. was hoping for a nail-biter but UNC just wasn't having any of it. i like UNC. georgetown will hopefully get back to that level.
i need to stay on the ball with all my classes. lots of shiz to be done these last few weeks. i need a job. so that means i need to start applying...
i found out that we get next monday off for easter also. greattt. 5 days at home alone/with scott and his crew. FMLL!!!

the dream makes 1 hit an hour
when i see crap like this i think "Wtf is wrong with me. why am i not this creative." i need to make beats. damnnnn
really exhausted. didn't get to take a long enough nap. i blasteeddd through that paper for computer science. sat down for 4 hrs and didn't even get up to get a drink. it was really draining but at least i got that thing done. get it away from mee!
whilst writing that effing paper i missed 1. the laker game 2. TUF 3. UFC fight night 4. LOST. i am so lost on LOST. haven't been caught up in a while. i have so much to catch up on. i have comp sci to thank for that. and VBA too.
Talked to my IF professor. turns out he went UCLA undergrad. kids went to claremont high, which is right by Webb, my high school. talked to him for a while. good times! he's a nice guy
well time to shower then bed. DRAINED

spent
totally tired now. managed to get in a good workout tonight. back just in time to see FOB on leno. pete's fashion wasn't operating at 100%. nice jeans dork.
i was so stoked to hear the dudes on loveline last night. trohman hit me up on twitter. that was legit. made my night however lame that sounds.
speaking of twitter. teagan presley is freaking amazing. i love the fact that she interacts with her fans online. she's replied to me enough for me to be like DAMN. this chick roolz. and she's only 2 yrs older than me!...
sashagrey is also a dime piece. she replies to fans too. super cool
not too happy that i have to write this paper for thursday. very boring and pointless. Fvck busy work from professors. last time i'll have to write something like this. school is ending VERY soon.
i'll miss sleeping in my own bed here. my own room.
i WON'T miss going to class, doing hw, writing papers, putting up with stupid professors
I will miss going to class to see my friends, doing hw with my buddies, staying up late for no reason even though i have to write a paper. schooling professors and making them give me points back.
college was meant for a few things. i think learning new trivia wasn't one of them. you learn about yourself and you make new friends. you learn to do laundry, you kiss girls (to say the least), you drink, you have fun. the last i'll remember is what textbook i bought, or didn't buy. or what grade i got in this or that course. i couldn't stand being over here and i bitch about that a lot. but i like georgeotwn. never again will i be surrounded with so many people my own age. never again will i have this smaller amount of responsibility. i can sleep in and when i don't want to go to class and simply say "fcuk it."
school is the gift and the curse.
would i do it again if i could...errrrr probably not. too much work makes jack a dull boy.
bed time now. 4:15am. class at 10:15. another great wednesday. TUF on tom and UFC fight night.

who's nailin paylin?
lisa ann was on loveline tonight. such an awesome woman. man i love pornstars. surprisingly enough it's their personalities, not the huge knockers, that interest me. i love me a mature cougar.
was actually doing some productive studying tonight. trying to put in more effort and bang out these last couple of weeks. hope i can stay motivated enough.
FOB on tomorrow, lookin forward to that. boycott love, detox just to retox.
love. work. play. probably won't find love till the late 20's. got the work. think i'm playing too much right now. but hey, i'm in college man. you take yourself too seriously and you're like a wagon with no springs...every little pebble on the road's gonna shake you up. ya dig?
p.s. measure a man by how well he treats someone who can do nothing for him. how do you treat people that can do you absolutely no good? don't use people. and don't ignore people who can do nothing for you.
i'd promise you anything for another shot at life

i hate sleeping
unless i'm completely exhausted. but every night i tire, grow weary of this computer and head to bed. tonight will be like the others. no exception.
pitt lost tonight. that was a total heartbreaker. feel bad for the dude that made the two free throws to tie it up. number 23 and 45? on pitt learn to play so effing d. wtf. you lost that game for your team, sleep well tonight.
the birds outside won't stop chirping. i'm a member of PETA and love animals. but please bird outside take 5 and stop singing for just a few. you can start again in the morning when i'm coherent enough to freaking STONE YOUR ASS>
i weigh 161 now. prior to this semester the most i weighed was 158. and that was with protein and RTS running through my veins. if you've ever taken nitrotech you know what i'm talking about. if you don't, good for you that ish screws with your blood flow. anyway. i haven't stopped eating and i kinda don't want to. nothing can satisfy my hunger, especially on leg day.
found out she was jewish. had no clue. not a practitioner. then i figured she was (jewish). her breasts were huge. strange thing is, at home in BH...mad jewish people. here at georgetown..not so much.
WHY leave it at that.

all new high!
4am! go me. just finished showering, time for bed now.
was chilling tonight reminiscing, recalling past experiences at webb (my high school). that place was a gift and a curse. some things in life just are. but hey, at least it prepared me for college! *grin*
oh where does the time go. i thought i'd never graduate high school. now i'm here thinking the same thing about college. lucky me, really.
ACC you fking suck you bastards are going down don't f* with the big easy. let's go wildcats! upset over louisville. i don't think that's gonna happen but man do i love me some arizona hotties! owoooo why can't georgetown be more like that? cause then it wouldn't be georgetown would it? this school has a thing or two to learn.
good times!.. i need a job

WMC woo!
ya it's not like i'm there. whatever. i love 50 degree weather in the spring..not
it's just routine now for me to sleep at 3. i tried going to bed at like 150 last night. ended up listening to my ipod till about 305 i'm guessing then passed out.
nothing much to say here. what am i going to do after college with my piece of paper? i have noooo ideaaa.
wen to the gym late tonight at around 10. got there. worked out chest. shot around for a bit after. my hand keeps curving in when i shoot, giving my shot this unwanted spin. this happens every so often and is really annoying. just my raymond's taint.
night night

coffee's for closers
i got my grade appeal back. what's important is that it was successful. ed soule, what goes around comes around. you malicious tenured professor. you owed me points and you knew it. thanks for ruining my gpa. but, like i said, what goes around comes around. sad that you were trying to teach me business ethics. the only thing i learned in your class was that in business, there are no ethics. way to set an example.
currently trying to get through the mirror effect. don't have much time to read for pleasure cause i have so much other useless crap to sift through. i came to the conclusion that college is such a piss poor investment. i have learned very little and have put up with bad teaching. i paid for this piece of paper. universities are bad business and tuition is inflated immensely. not worth it. paid for the rep, not for the quality of education.
enough of my b!tching and moaning. time for bed! you know i wish i could go to WMC. but whatever, i'll throw light switch raves in my bedroom. i can't wait till it gets warmer. i want to wear some shorts.
time geithner, do you know what you're doing? Bam bam..you? good luck. i don't know either. at least the market's rallying.
ps listen to kings of leon. at least two songs anyway.
i need sleep bye bye!

another 3am night
i think i'm just retarded at this point. i'm a person who stays up late for no reason. well, there was the laker game tonight. go lakers, another win. so i have that as an excuse
i blame twitter. i'm pretty hooked.. it's so addicting. screw all you spammers who keep adding me. ASS
im off to bed. people think i'm a druggie i bet. i look so high half the time because i'm dead tired from the night before. no, i don't do drugs. never have never will.
dr drew, another fine job on the o'reilly factor tonight. too bad bill wasn't there to interview. barack obama, you're a likeable guy. should u be president? who knows. all i do know is, i'm not down with your quasi-socialism. tim geitner get a grip. @The Fed, you're printing this economy into oblivion. get ready for inflation. AIG people, the few of you who don't deserve bonuses, give them back. no more bailout money for AIG until you do.

jimmy fallon
i think he's struggling a little bit. i don't know if he has the personality to do this late night tv thing. i liked his personality on snl, and in general, but his opening monologue is brutal to listen to. i hope he does well and he gets used to the show.
vampire weekend blew. i'm sorry but i just can't get down with that freaking music. instead, i suggest listening to the new bloc party remix album... notable remix from the villains on there. but i bet people can't put up with throbbing electro.
i'm kinda pissed that i couldn't make it the gym tonight because of work. it's the sixth class that always (*&^ me over. eh, it'll all be over soon. but i'm still pissed because i'm losing weight. i'm naturally a skinny guy, so not eating well and not working out = instant weight loss.
so many djs are at SXSW; they won't stop twittering about that shiz. And then they twitter about getting ready for WMC. ahhhhhhh i just want to hang out!!! argghhhh
time to shower then bed. hope some good dreams come my way. i can always use them.. who can't

the mirror effect
ordered dr. drew's new book The Mirror Effect. He was on Hannity tonight. he did a good job. when i hear this guy talk, or when i listen to loveline, i sometimes think of a possible career switch. if i could do anything else, i would have enjoyed being a doctor specializing in chemical addiction/ susbstance abuse. too late for that!
AIG give back the bonuses. they're not even yours right? they're mine and every other tax paying citizen's. who owns AIG? we do
Watching closing bell isn't as fun when the DOW is rallying. Here's to a sharp decline! go bears!!
i stay up late for no reason..seriously. time for bed. a few more weeks of school. do work.
and it's over
p.s. i've done nothing in my 4 years for St. Patrick's day. today was no exception. had too much work. you all know i don't go out when i'm at school. i'm on that do work tour, son. do i regret staying in? nah. to each his own. alcohol makes you fat..fatty mcfat fat

I gave up cursing for lent..so i can't type the whole word.
it's so late. stayed up till 4 to finish this assignment. you know it shouldn't have taken so long, but among eating, listening to loveline, listening to music, and learning VBA...it took a while. glad i know how to program a little bit already or this would have been miserable. need to ask the prof a question for tomorrow. I think it should be all good.
are you a mormon? are you a midget? loveline was hilarious tonight.
I need to start doing work for my classes before my classes do work on me. I also need to talk to my dean about that appeal. argghh!!
sleep time. up in like 5 hrs for work. damn this blows
p.s. haha, kevin is in trouble with his GF about acapulco. let me speak truely..nothing happened. he's an innocent man! we're all good guys..straight fact no quack jack

my battle with dj ayres
there's this guy named ayres haxton. he rolls with a crew out in NY called "the rub." I friended him on facebook a while back because I thought his remixes were cool. I don't know the guy, but frankly, who cares? it's facebook..the new myspace!
so today, after reading an article that suggested that MLK was a republican, I wrote "MLK was a republican...good man!" as my facebook status. I left it up for a few seconds then I realized that it was a bit distasteful, especially on MLK day. Plus, I don't think anyone really knows whether King was an elephant or a donkey. The debate continues to this day...
Fast forward to about 4 hrs ago. I get a comment from ayres that reads "don't be an idiot." My initial inclination was the following: this guy's a dj, probably liberal, he's from NY. He buys into the whole Yes we can Obama forever garbage.
I was correct! He was the liberal who, when lacking facts, chose to spew nonsense and hurl insults rather than put together a cogent argument. Here's our conversation. After having some fun for a while we both called it quits. Well, at least I did...
After his comment "don't be an idiot," I replied with a comment on his wall that said "don't hate the truth." Here's what ensued...
Title of the message: "are you serious?"
I just don't get why you posted that. There is no evidence anywhere that MLK was a Republican. If it is a joke, it's pretty distasteful to joke about MLK on his birthday.
"In 'The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr.,' which was published after his death from his written material and records, King called the Republican national convention that nominated Goldwater a 'frenzied wedding ... of the KKK and the radical right.'
'The Republican Party geared its appeal and program to racism, reaction, and extremism," King said in the book.'"
Erik Martinez
Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower proposed the 1957 Civil Rights Act. The Democrats, led by the "legendary" Strom Thurmond, opposed the bill from becoming a law, yet their efforts were futile.
Later on, the 1964 revision to the act was successful in its attempt to further regulate civil rights as it outlawed segregation. But, who opposed this bill? The Southern Democrats. Leave it to the Confederates.
Additionally, President Kennedy, the Democrat, with the aid of his brother Bob Kennedy, had King wiretapped by the FBI "on suspicion of being a Communist."
In his time, why would Dr. King support the Democrats? Republicans advocated civil rights. Was he a registered Republican? Perhaps. Was he a Dem? I would think not.
I was already considering removing that status seconds after I posted it. The vision of MLK transcends any political party.
I still like the rub.
Ayres Haxton
Congratulations, you can cut and paste little bits and pieces of facts that, when read on their own, would support your argument. The Religous Right does the same with the Bible to support homophobia and all sorts of other evils.
But you know that saying "Martin Luther King was a Republican" is some sensational bullshit though. Right? It's offensive and your little argument to back it up is flimsy and obviously partisan.
Of course there were good and bad Democrats during the Civil Rights Movement, especially in the South, just as there were good and bad Republicans. Saying the Republican party was "the civil rights party" is revisionism at its worst. It's totally ridiculous and anyone who was alive back then will tell you that.
Martin Luther King was famous for being apolitical, but people close to him say he voted for President Kennedy. Yes there were tenuous relations between the Kennedys and Martin Luther King. MLK was for civil disobedience and the Kennedys believed in affecting change through voting and government. But J Edgar Hoover was who wiretapped Martin Luther King.
And Bobby Kennedy's central issue was civil rights. I'm from Mississippi. Ever heard of James Merideth? It was Bobby Kennedy who sent in the troops to enforce the court order that protected Merideth's right to attend Ole Miss.
I can keep going. I'm really surprised that someone who goes to Georgetown doesn't know this stuff.
Erik Martinez

"Congratulations, you can cut and paste little bits and pieces of facts that, when read on their own, would support your argument. The Religous Right does the same with the Bible to support homophobia and all sorts of other evils."
1.Please refer to your original message. 2. You're right (excuse the pun), maybe I shouldn't back up my claim with unbiased, historical facts? 3. Your comment on the religious right is a little out there in "left" field. Don't know where that's coming from. Sounds like you hate religion?
"But you know that saying 'Martin Luther King was a Republican' is some sensational bullshit though. Right? It's offensive and your little argument to back it up is flimsy and obviously partisan."
1. The facts suggest that King would have supported the Republicans in their efforts to bring about change in the civil rights movement. Evidently, from your standpoint, calling someone a Republican is insulting. You're emotions and bias are getting the best of you here. 2. You call me partisan yet you proclaim that associating someone with the Republican party is "bullshit." That is unnecessary. Sounds like you're clearly on the left side of the fence.
"Of course there were good and bad Democrats during the Civil Rights Movement, especially in the South, just as there were good and bad Republicans. Saying the Republican party was "the civil rights party" is revisionism at its worst. It's totally ridiculous and anyone who was alive back then will tell you that."
1. Facts are facts. You need some here. Unless you were alive during that time, how can I believe you? 2. I don't see where I stated that the republican party was the official civil rights party. I stated that they supported civil rights.
Now I can keep going, but what's the point? You're the biased one here who has engaged in taking cheap, personal shots. This retort of yours lacks hard facts. I'm not going to rebut with an "I'm smarter than you" statement" because that's not professional, and I certainly don't need to outline my credentials to prove my intelligence to someone who responded to my status on facebook.
Yes we can!
Erik

I'm sorry, what you're saying is absurd. Let me pull it back and to the top and make it super simple: you said "Martin Luther King was a Republican." The objective reality is that Martin Luther King wasn't registered with either party. So you're wrong. The End.
Erik Martinez
You make generalized statements with no evidence. Looks like we both agree that this conversation is over. It was fun while it lasted. You get the last word...
Ayres Haxton
Show me. Show me that Martin Luther King was a registered Republican. Give me hard evidence.
And, for the record, I'd just like to point out that I never said MLK was a registered Republican. I stated that in my first message...
Whatever. Some conversations aren't worth continuing.

so glad this is the last semester at school. done with this overpriced university. but it's weird; when i'm at school for a while, i don't want to leave. when i'm at home, i don't want to go back to school. i'm just fucking tired of flying in that fucking airplane for 5+ hrs.
so i've got one more semester. one last hoorah.
i hope i don't miss my flight tomorrow.
